The Company We Keep: Hospitality and Mutuality
Often in religious community we speak of nurturing diversity as welcoming. When we use the language of welcome, we are embracing the language of hospitality. When you think of hospitality, are you most comfortable as guest or as a host?
Opening the Door
Us dogs know something about hospitality. People often think that hospitality is opening the door to let someone in, and asking if they would like something to drink.
Hospitality and Hardship
It was Thanksgiving time, 1971. We were newly married, still in college, and were part of a group of 6 couples who hung together. 12 of us, a couple of kids, a few stray dogs and cats, all poor. We had college loans, living expenses, only part-time jobs.
